December is a time for celebration for many, a time to look back on the year that has past and be thankful for the things achieved. Projects Abroad community volunteers of 2014 have done a lot to be proud of! One of the ways volunteers have made an impact on the lives of children here in Thailand has been through their monthly outreach activities; from English days, to teaching children about the importance of having sharks in our ocean.

Being a professional volunteer with Projects Abroad allowed me to see a side of Thailand that very few outsiders get to experience. It was my privilege not only to work in the schools, experiencing first-hand the students' daily struggles to master English, but also to work with and help the teachers through conferences and meetings.

The highlight of the day for the girls was the face painting. They seemed to enjoy painting flags on their cheeks and also helped their friends to paint their team’s flag. Some children were so artistic and painted such beautiful flags for their coach. The softballs we brought with us were also just perfect for the girls to practice passing and kicking the ball.

Teaching has been a lot of fun for me. It took a little getting used to but I've enjoyed it a lot. At first I didn't even know how to teach and I started my first day with no idea what to do with the children, how to keep them interested, or what the children would know.
